Thunder Road
Jim Cummings' 'Thunder Road' is a masterclass in raw, unvarnished grief, mirroring 'Ee.Ma.Yau.'s' unflinching gaze at human vulnerability. The film opens with a devastatingly awkward eulogy, immediately establishing a tone of tragicomedy that permeates its narrative. Cummings, as writer, director, and star, delivers a tour-de-force performance as a police officer grappling with his mother's death and a crumbling personal life. The long takes and intense focus on his character's unraveling psyche create an immersive, almost uncomfortable intimacy, much like Pellissery's observational style. It's a poignant, often hilarious, and deeply uncomfortable exploration of masculinity, mental health, and the messy, unpredictable nature of mourning.
